The 2022 World Series began Friday night with the Philadelphia Phillies erasing a five-point deficit to beat the Houston Astros in extra innings in Game 1. Phillies catcher JT Realmuto was the hero of Game 1, hitting a game-winning home run in the 10th inning, while the Philadelphia bullpen kept Houston off the board after some early fireworks at Minute Maid Park. The Astros will look to bounce back in Game 2 at home on Saturday night.

The Astros are the No. 1 seed on the American League side and have fought their way to the league crown. Houston went clean 7-0 to start the playoffs and capped an ALCS sweep of the Yankees in the Bronx.

The sixth-seeded Phillies were the last team in the NL group in this expanded playoff, but are now 10-2 in the playoffs and knocked out the champion from NL Central Cardinalsthe NL East champ brave and the upstart padres. Bryce Harper hit the biggest home run of his life on Sunday, throwing a two-run blast in the eighth inning to give the Phillies an NLCS Game 5 win over San Diego.
