Athletics take home four golds at War Eagle Invitational

AUBURN, Alabama – Four track and field athletes from the University of Memphis finished the War Eagle Invitational weekend with a title, bringing the team’s top 10 total for the competition to 27.
The competition ended on Saturday evening on the Hutsell-Rosen track after two full days of competition.
Tate Wyatt was the first Tiger to win a title, crossing the finish line first in the men’s 3000m steeplechase. His time of 9:01.33 marks a collegiate best time for the junior. Also winning a gold medal and the best collegiate time on Friday was Chloe Figgins in the women’s 5,000m invitational with a time of 16:57.32.
Saturday saw the Tigers win two more gold medals with DeeNia McMillerfirst place in the shot put (16.32m) and Cole Riddlepole vault height of 5.44 m.
mona Jaïdi three top-five finishes for her women’s shot put, discus and hammer throws. She is currently ranked in the top five in the American Athletic Conference for all three events; it also continues to hold the highest conference ranking for the javelin.
Iason Machairas improved on his season record for the men’s shot put with his third-place shot, which still puts him first in the conference for the event.
The Tigers are only scheduled for one more traveling weekend before the conference championship in May. Next weekend the team will return to Alabama for the Crimson Tide Invitational in Tuscaloosa.
