Biden says he supports free college and student loan cancellation
Joe Biden seems to adopt that of Senator Bernie Sanders progressive education policies, calling for more college debt forgiveness and free college.
Speaking of the protests that have spread nationwide during the death of George FloydThe former vice president has changed a lot as the country has in their wake.
“Well, you know, things start to change and people are realizing it, and I have changed. I have. I think there needs to be more debt forgiveness for college loans, I think more opportunities to go to college for free. For free, “Biden told Trevor Noah in an interview Wednesday on” The Daily Show. “
But the presumed Democratic presidential candidate said corporate policy must change as well and lambasted President Trump’s $ 2 trillion tax cut.
“Imagine if we had this $ 2 trillion tax cut,” he said, adding that it could have been used to educate people.
“We’re going to use this to reduce student debt. We would be a different country. Leadership matters, ”Biden said.
He had previously supported free tuition for most students, except those whose families earn $ 125,000 or more per year.
Sanders, who dropped out of the presidential race in April and approved Biden, urged his campaign to find common ground on many of the progressive policies he espoused during the campaign.
Adopting these policies would go a long way in uniting the Democratic Party and encourage Sanders supporters to run for the polls in November.
In a interview published Tuesday with The New Yorker magazine, Sanders said he thinks Biden is heading further to the left.
“I think you’re going to see him be pretty strong on the need for a new economy in America that does a lot better at representing working families than we currently have,” Sanders said. “He told me he wanted to be as strong as possible on climate change, and I can’t wait to hear his proposals.”
Biden did not go into specifics during the “Daily Show” appearance on the tuition policy and host Noah did not press the issue.
A request for clarification from the Biden campaign was not immediately returned.
