‘Fortnite’ and ‘Rocket League’ Swap Iconic Cars in New High-Octane In-Game Event
Fortnite and rocket league have had quite a few crossover events over the years, but nothing has entwined Epic Games’ biggest titles more tightly than their latest event.
In from Fortnite High Octane event, players can now find rocket leaguein the game and drive, jump, flip and even boost your way around the map.
Not only is it fun to dodge hapless opponents, but the event also features in-game quests to unlock cosmetics for both games. By completing eight quests, you will earn Fortnite players a crowd of Rocket League-themed gear, including four distinct “back bling” skateboard styles and the sweet “Clutch Victory” pickaxe – whose head is a winged steering wheel emblazoned rocket leagueand a banner reading “Champion”.
The most attractive reward for rocket league fans, of course, is from Fortnite Whiplash car and its accompanying cosmetics in Rocket League. This sleek retro car can be earned by completing eight of Octane’s themed quests in Fortnite.
Full quest details can be found in the game’s Quests tab – the eleven quests in total cover from Fortnite Battle Royale modes and four distinct fan-made mini-games. Overall they seem to encourage participation more than require great skill in either game, so even Fortnite newcomers should have no trouble completing eight quests before the event ends on December 3.
More importantly, Octane is an absolute blast to drive in the game. I was able to find it easily in my first parachute game, and after getting used to (or reconfiguring) the controls, the movement of the car feels as natural as in Rocket League. Bouncing off canyon walls and clearing entire cities with a single accelerated jump is a new experience worth trying for yourself.
The community-created mini-games I’ve played for quests show the depth of player creativity and are a stark reminder of what rocket league is missing. While custom maps and game modes are possible in private matches, implementing amazing community creations would add some much-needed variety to the game. With a game as popular as rocket leagueit’s disappointing that I had to start an entirely different game to finally run the Octane around a course.
That said, it took a rocket league exclusive event and cosmetics for me to reinstall Fortnite for the first time in years, so I’m going to enjoy taking on the challenges and grabbing this new Whiplash battle car. The High Octane event runs until December 3 and full details can be found on the Fortnite website here.
