FORT WAYNE, Indiana (WANE) – Ivy Tech Community College Fort Wayne and Warsaw will help college students and their families open the door to financial aid with help from financial aid professionals during College Goal Sunday November 7.

Starting at 2 p.m., students will be able to get help completing the Free Federal Student Aid Application (FAFSA). The form is required for any student who wishes to be considered for federal and state grants, scholarships, and federal student loans at most colleges, universities, and vocational / technical schools nationwide. FAFSA forms must be completed by April 15th.

“One of the many reasons College Goal Sunday is so important is that many families find the form too complicated and time consuming to complete. In less than an afternoon during College Goal Sunday, students and their families can get free help and fill out the form, ”said Ivy Tech.

According to the Indiana Commission for Higher Education, programs like College Goal Sunday are reaching first-generation students. In recent years, according to commission statistics, more and more single-parent Hoosier families have applied for financial assistance, indicating that programs like College Goal Sunday are reaching high-risk students and their families.

Anyone planning to attend the event is requested to attend with a parent or guardian. Parents are asked to bring a 2020 IRS 1040 income tax return, W-2 forms, and other 2020 income and benefit information. Working students are also asked to bring their income information. Students and parents are encouraged to apply for their US Department of Education FSA credentials before the event.

Ivy Tech said students 24 years of age or older can participate on their own. They are encouraged to bring a 2020 IRS 1040 tax return, W-2 forms, and other 2020 income and benefit information.

Volunteers will help families navigate the online form line by line and answer questions as needed. All of the sites offer FAFSA online functionality and many have Spanish interpreters. A complete list of sites is available at CollegeGoalSunday.org.

During the event, students will have the chance to win one of five $ 1,000 scholarships. To participate, students will be required to submit a completed evaluation form. The winners will be notified in the spring.
