Gartman named AAC pitcher of the week, Webb named to weekly honor roll

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After an almost faultless start on Thursday against Tulane, HPR Landon Gartman was named American Athletic Conference pitcher of the week. This is the premier Player/Pitcher of the Week award for the Tigers this season. Besides, 2B Braden Webb was named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll after a series of dominating offensive games.
On Thursday, Gartman had one of the best performances for a Memphis pitcher this season, probably the second-best after only his eight-inning no-hitter effort against East Carolina on May 6. In the opener against the green wave, Gartman struck out 15 of the 16 batters he faced as the only man to reach against him in the win was on a fourth inning home run. Gartman matched his season high with 10 strikeouts and didn’t walk a batter as he notched his team-best sixth win of the season.
On the year, Gartman is 6-1 with a 3.53 ERA. In 14 appearances, 12 starts, the right-hander has 88 strikeouts and just 26 walks in 79 innings. Gartman held opponents to a team-best .177 batting average and was twice named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll.
Webb is having his best plate streak this season, as he landed multiple hits in each of the first two games of the series against Tulane, earning him four consecutive multi-hit performances. Against the Green Wave, Webb went 5-11 (.455) with a home run, his first of the season, and two RBIs. The second baseman finished the weekend with a .727 SLG and a team-best .500 OBP.
The sophomore hit .309 in 27 games, 16 starts in the regular season. Webb had one home run, six RBIs, five doubles and scored 17 runs. He finished the regular season with a .390 OBP, .426 SLG, and was a perfect 3-3 in stolen base attempts.
Memphis returns to action Tuesday at the AAC Tournament in Clearwater, Fla. The Tigers open the tournament at 3 p.m. against No. 2 UCF.
