Jackets Slip to 7th Place at Golf Club of Georgia – Men’s Golf – Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Alpharetta, Georgia. – Christo Lamprecht, Connor howe and Benjamin Reuter each shot 1 under par 71 on Saturday, and 13e-classed Georgia Tech was 286 under par, slipping to seventh after 36 holes at 15e Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate at the Golf Club of Georgia.
Second year Aidan Kramer, who was part of Tech’s B team in the event, maintained his low Yellow Jacket position in the tournament after also earning a 71 card to finish 36 holes tied for eighth place. Tech’s B team tied their main unit on Saturday with a 286 and are tied for 12e place with Southern California.
The Yellow Jackets are 18 strokes short of reigning national champion Pepperdine entering Sunday’s final round.
TECHNICAL RANGE – The Yellow Jackets hit 9 under par over 12 holes in their second round on Saturday, but limped home with seven bogeys and a pair of double bogeys in the last six holes. Ross steelman and Bartley Forrester each shot 73 on Saturday, one of them counting towards Tech’s squad total.
Lamprecht (sophomore George, South Africa) and Reuter (freshman, Naarden, Netherlands), who each shot 70 on Friday, are tied for 15e individually place at 3 under par 141. Steelman (junior, Columbia, Mo.) is tied for 25e at 143 (-1), while Howe (junior, Ogden, Utah) is tied for 33rd at par 144, and Forrester (junior, Gainesville, Ga.) is tied for 42sd to 145 (+1).
In the B team, junior Andy Mao (Johns Creek, Georgia) led the way with a 69 under par of 3 on Saturday, with Kramer’s 71 and 73 in senior Ben Smith (Novi, Michigan) and second Adam Bratton (Newburgh, Indiana) account.
Sophomore Christo Lamprecht is tied for 15th place after completing rounds of 70-71.
TEAM RANKING – Defending NCAA Champion Pepperdine kept up his scorching pace on Saturday with four under par for the round, shooting a second straight round 13 under par 275, taking a four-stroke lead over No.9 Texas A&M (9 below par). by 279 Saturday). The Waves completed 36 holes at 26 holes under par 550 and the Aggies at 22 holes under par 554.
The Waves are set to break the tournament’s 54-hole scoring record of 836 (-28) by Georgia Tech in 2010.
Tennessee’s No.21 (558, -18), Wake Forest’s No.16 (559, -17) and Stanford’s No.4 (561, -14) all posted double-digit below par results. Saturday and are 3 to 5 in the standings. No.19 East Tennessee State is sixth at 563 (-13), followed by Georgia Tech with 568 (-8).
Virginia (570, -6), Duke (571, -5) and Clemson (572, -4) are the only other teams below par for 36 holes, placing eighth to 10e.
INDIVIDUAL RANKING – Pepperdine’s Joe Highsmith (16 under par 128) called his opener of 63 with a 65 on Saturday and has a two-stroke lead over Wake Forest’s Alex Fitzpatrick (14 under par 130), who followed his opener of 64 with a 66.
Highsmith can break the tournament record of 54 holes (201, 15 under par by Derek Bard of Virginia in 2014) with a tied round on Sunday.
Karl Vilips of Stanford is fourth at 134 (-10), followed by Walker Lee of Texas A&M at 137 (-7). Lee Aggie’s teammates William Paysse and Sam Bennett are tied for sixth at 138 (-6).
Aidan Kramer of Georgia Tech is tied for eighth at 139 (-5) with Spencer Cross and Tyler Johnson of Tennessee, Ian Siebers of Duke and William Mouw of Pepperdine.


TOURNAMENT INFORMATION – The Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate, formerly known as the United States Collegiate Championship, is played at the local club of the Yellow Jackets. The tournament is played exclusively on the 7,092-yard Lakeside, par 72, 18-hole course daily through Sunday. The final round will begin Sunday at 8:30 am. Free entry.
The event attracts one of the strongest courses in college golf each year, and this year it’s stronger than ever with seven NCAA Championship teams from last spring, including defending NCAA Champion Pepperdine, Clemson, East Tennessee State, TCU, Tennessee and Wake Forest as well as the Yellow Vests.
The 15-team peloton includes 10 of the country’s top 50 teams, according to the most recent rankings from Golfstat and the Golfweek / Sagarin Index. The full line-up with Golfstat and Sagarin rankings in brackets – Georgia Tech (13/15), Clemson (27/32), Colorado State, Duke, East Tennessee State (19/20), Pepperdine (17/11), Southern California , Stanford (4/4), Tennessee (21/17), Texas A&M (9/7), TCU (51/38), UCLA, Virginia (20/24), Wake Forest (16/13).
Among the individuals, the peloton includes the nation’s highest ranked individual in Virginia, Chris Fosdick, and 14 others ranked in the top 50 of the most recent Golfstat rankings.
Georgia Tech’s 10 players compete in two teams, with the main team made up of the top five players and a B team made up of the rest. Team B is also competing for a team score.
COLLEGE HISTORY OF TECH’S GOLF CLUB OF GEORGIA – Georgia Tech has won the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate twice in the 14 year history of the event, in 2010 and 2012. James White, who set tournament records for a score of 18 holes (62 ) and a score of 54 holes (204, beaten in 2014), won medalist honors in 2010, while Ollie Schniederjans won it in 2013 for the only individual Tech titles. Clemson, Oklahoma State, Southern California and Texas have also won twice. The Tigers won the inaugural title in 2006 and again in 2009, the Longhorns won in 2014 and shared the title with Virginia in 2016, the Cowboys won in 2013 and 2017, and the Trojans in 2008 and 2019. The tournament was not played in the fall of 2020 due to COVID-19.
The Yellow Jackets finished 10e in 2019, and have only finished in the top five three times in 14 years.
