Liverpool say they are ‘serious’ about £58m Alisson swap deal as Roberto Firmino ‘offer’ made
Welcome to Liverpool.com’s daily Media Digest. From transfers to tweets, it can be difficult to follow everything that happens in the sphere of Anfield. Credible, amazing, and everything in between: we bring it all together in one place here, taking a sideways look at the day’s media events from around the world.
Interest from Frenkie de Jong
Both Liverpool and Bayern Munich are ‘willing to pay’ for Frenkie de Jong at the end of the season, according to Spanish outlet Sport, but the player is more inclined to stay at Barcelona and fight for his future.
De Jong was signed from Ajax in 2019 by Ronald Koeman and hadn’t fully fired up but would have improved under Xavi, whose system is more suited to his game.
Even so, reports had suggested that if a big enough offer was put on the table for the midfielder, Barcelona would consider him due to their financial issues and the fact that De Jong wasn’t a key player.
That might still be the case, but Barcelona’s tendency seems to be to keep the Dutchman, and De Jong would like that too, having always seen the Camp Nou side as his dream club.
Roberto Firmino’s decision is made
Liverpool are set to offer Roberto Firmino a new contract, according to Football Insider, with the report indicating the Reds will grant the Brazilian an extension before the end of the season.
Jürgen Klopp is said to be ‘a huge admirer’ of the 30-year-old striker and he supposedly believes he ‘still has a big role to play in the seasons to come’.
Aged 31 in October, Firmino has played a more limited role this season at Anfield but it might be wise to keep him rather than cash in this summer given the transfer fee would be minimal.
Alisson Becker ‘could be replaced’
Spanish outlet El Nacional are reporting that Liverpool are preparing a remarkable goalkeeper swap to replace Alisson Becker, who they say ‘hasn’t been 100 per cent’ recently.
The report says Liverpool are ‘absolutely sure’ Barcelona striker Marc-Andre ter Stegen is the man they need, and they are willing to pay €70m (£58m) to sign him .
Liverpool, the report says, are “very serious” about the German.
However, the chances of that being true are extremely slim, with Alisson a valuable and crucial member of the Liverpool squad with a long future at Anfield ahead of him.
The Brazilian has generally been at a very high level for Liverpool this season and that crazy rumor can be dismissed. It is, however, a suggestion that has already been put forward, which makes it even more curious.
Nonetheless, the suggestion that Alisson hasn’t been up to snuff lately is laughable.
