Norfolk selected to host 2023 ECHL All-Star Game

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Norfolk has been selected to host the 2023 Warrior/ECHL All-Star Classic, the ECHL and Norfolk Admirals announced Saturday.
The match will be played at Norfolk Scope Arena on Monday 16th January 2023.
Events surrounding the game include an All-Star Fan Fest and the 15th Class of the ECHL Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. Full venue, ticket information, availability and logo reveal will be announced later.
“Bringing the annual ECHL Professional Hockey Celebration to Norfolk for generations of Hampton Roads hockey fans is one of the first highlights of the Norfolk Admirals’ new look,” said Patrick Cavanagh, owner of the Norfolk Admirals.
The annual mid-season showcase is attended by representatives from the National Hockey League and American Hockey League. Since its inception, it has produced 70 future NHL players, including 54 since 2002, when the format was changed to feature younger prospects.
The 2023 ECHL All-Star Classic marks Norfolk’s second time hosting the event after hosting the League’s second event in 1994.
Norfolk join Reading (2005 and 2009) as the only twice hosts in ECHL All-Star Classic history. The ECHL All-Star Classic traditionally generates over $1 million in economic impact as guests, players, coaches and fans occupy hotel rooms and spend three days in the host city.
“Norfolk proudly serves as the cultural and economic center of the region and hosting the 2023 ECHL All-Star Classic further solidifies Norfolk as the home of Hampton Roads sports,” said Norfolk Mayor Kenneth Cooper Alexander. .
“Over the 33-year history with the Admirals organization, the city continues to rely on our strong partnership with the team’s leaders, players and fans and we look forward to welcoming the players most skilled and accomplished in ECHL hockey in Norfolk in 2023.”
