Oak View Academy students swap classroom for the ski slope
Fifth grade LUCKY students from Winsford swapped their class for an indoor ski slope to help them with their geography studies.
Members of the Hawthorn class at Oak View Academy received an interesting lesson at Chill Factore Manchester, with teacher Heather Hickman saying, âIt was awesome – everyone had a fantastic time!
âThe trip was related to our subject of geography this term, in which we compared Cheshire to a contrasting European region, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes in France.
âAs part of this work unit, we explored the similarities and differences between the human and physical geography of the two sites.
âIn particular, we explored the Alps and how they are used by tourists.
“Skiing being a very popular tourist activity in the Alps, we thought it would be a fantastic opportunity to bring their learning to life through a truly special experience.”
Oak View is operated by the North West Academies Trust (NWAT), which places particular emphasis on encouraging learning outside the classroom. Weaverham Academy and Delamere Academy, both located near Northwich, are just six of NWAT’s other primary schools where âchildren’s eyes are opened to a wonderful world of possibilitiesâ.
