Report: Barcelona’s Frenkie De Jong could be used as swap bait as Xavi interested in Premier League star
Frenkie De Jong did everything he could to stay at Barcelona, the Dutch international played 98 La Liga games and scored 8 goals in three seasons at the club. De Jong has always been one of many players on Xavi’s list who have been named as possible transfer chips.
De Jong has said he wants to commit to Barcelona for the foreseeable future, but the club’s financial situation and its pressing need to improve other areas on the roster could make De Jong the odd one out.
According to Fernando Polo, Barcelona have their sights set on a Manchester City player and that Frenkie De Jong could be used as a bargaining chip to get him over the transfer finish line.
Barcelona interested in Bernardo Silva
The player in question that Barcelona are watching is 27-year-old Portugal international Bernardo Silva. Silva has made 35 Premier League appearances this season, registering 8 goals and 4 assists. Silva started at City for 87% of their line-ups last season.
The former Monaco winger has a contract with the club until 2025 and given that Barcelona are in such a financial situation, De Jong would be part of the negotiations to facilitate a move.
