The NBA playoffs are well under way and the second round of clashes is scheduled to begin on Saturday, June 6, 2021. Seven of the eight rounds in the first round are over and the winners advance to the second round. The only first-round streak remaining is LA Clippers vs. Dallas Mavericks with a streak tied at 3-3. Game 7 of this series will take place on Sunday.

Perhaps the most surprising result is that last year’s champions LA Lakers are eliminated after losing to Phoenix 4-2 in the first round. Injuries plagued the Lakers’ season and it continued with Anthony Davis not being 100% up to fight the Suns. Meanwhile, led by the steady hand of veteran Chris Paul, Devin Booker has made a leap into super stardom with incredible performances throughout the series. Add to that the solid play from guys like Deandre Ayton and the Suns suddenly look like a team ready to go deep in the Western Conference playoffs.

NBA playoffs: where are we?

  • With the fall of the Lakers, the West is wide open. We could easily see one of the remaining teams advance to the final. This means Utah, Denver, Phoenix, Dallas and the Clippers could have their best opportunity to win the West in years.
  • With Lebron James out of the playoffs, the East’s power three teams are salivating for the chance to win a title. Brooklyn, Philadelphia, and Milwaukee all look exceptional and have ultimate aspirations. But they will have to manage to get there. It starts in Round 2 as Brooklyn and Milwaukee go head to head. It will be a fun series.
  • With the only series in depth, the Clippers and Mavs will play Game 7 tomorrow. Can veterans Kahwi Leonard and Paul George retain the newcomer led by Luka? The series can go both ways. The winner will face Utah in the second round.
