Some Liverpool fans react to move to transfer ‘magnificent’ player
Liverpool fans reacted on Twitter to Danny Ings who has apparently decided not to sign a new contract at Southampton.
The 28-year-old, who left Liverpool for St Mary’s in 2019, turned down a new four-year contract, according to BBC Sport.
Ings has one year left on his current contract and could leave Southampton for free next summer.
But Liverpool fans have discussed the possibility of bringing his talents back to Anfield.
It was not a lack of quality that injured Ings during his stint on Merseyside, but a serious injury after serious injury.
If it hadn’t been for those months in the treatment room, it would have been interesting to see what he would have been able to produce.
Although under less pressure, Ings has scored 46 goals in 100 games for the Saints, including 55 in 140 Premier League games. (transfer market).
This is part of the game for a player shaken by serious injuries during his career.
But with Liverpool not being as big as some of their Premier League rivals, sections of Anfield’s loyalists have admitted they will take him back.
Jurgen Klopp needs some quality depth in his forward areas and at least one other new face that can have the same impact as Diogo Jota in his debut campaign.
Given that Southampton loaned Takumi Minamino last season, it has even been suggested that the Reds use the Japanese superstar to bring Ings back to the club.
It’s understandable that Liverpool fans are looking for a bigger name after struggling last season, even though they saved everything with a remarkable third place finish.
But someone like Ings would be perfect for Klopp, the Englishman displaying the ability to press without a ball to adapt to his system.
Burnley forward Ashley Barnes called Ings a “magnificent” player in 2019 and said he was “unhappy” during his time on Merseyside.
If Ings had never played for Liverpool, it would have been interesting to see if the club would have pushed his talents, as his previous spell could be off-putting for some.
Either way, a striker of his quality is out there and he has the ability to play in Europe.
It’s just about someone putting money on the table for a player out of contract next summer.
Nonetheless, here is a selection of Liverpool fans reacting to Ings news:
