Sutton believes Gerrard would trade Rangers for Villa

Chris Sutton told BBC Sport 606 that Steven Gerrard would trade Rangers for Aston Villa, should he be offered the option of replacing Dean Smith.
Smith is under tremendous pressure after watching his Villa side lose 4-1 at home to West Ham. Of course, Smith did a brilliant job at Villa.
He guided them to promotion in 2018-19, after three years in the second level. Safety, in fact, in its first season was propelled to a comfortable 11th place.
But this season, despite spending the better part of Jack Grealish’s £ 100million, Villa is in 15th place, losing six of his 10 league games.
Smith is under increasing pressure and Sutton, a former Villa striker, has been asked about a possible replacement for the current Villa man.

Sutton on Gerrard at Villa: Would he be a good replacement?
While Smith has done a good job at Villa, you can tell the pressure is building on him. He gets thorny in press conferences, not himself normally.
Smith is a senior executive and deserves huge praise for his work at Villa. But the Midands club seem a bit at a standstill and Villa must look to the future.
Six out of 10 losses is bad. 15th is much better than the real situation; Villa are tied on points with the 16th and 17th. Relegation is on the cards.
Would Gerrard be a good date? Well that would be a good job for Gerrard – proving his Premier League credentials to Liverpool.
For Villa, it would be an exciting decision – one that could help them grow. But would Gerrard leave the Rangers, especially mid-season?
