Theater program at the CBC announces grant opportunities for the show

TOWNSHIP — Typically, the SRC Theater hosts open audition / interview events each spring for applicants interested in grants for acting and technical positions in the program for the next academic term. This year, due to the ongoing pandemic, individual applicants are encouraged to contact Douglas Okey, the director of the theater program, to arrange an audition or interview, depending on the area of individual interest.
Okey, a drama and English teacher at the college, says the CBC theater grants are good for both the program and the students who participate in it. “The subsidized group forms a strong core for the program and makes possible many features of the program,” such as the season of two large-scale productions each academic year and the listing of the program’s academic course offerings.
Grant amounts vary, Okey says. “These funds are all grants to be applied against the direct costs of the CBC, not loans that students will have to repay.” Grant funds can be used for tuition, fees, or books and supplies in the SRC bookstore.
The CBC theater program includes credit university courses as well as an extracurricular season of classical and contemporary theater productions. Okey says the coursework and theater production program, including grants, is open to students of any college or major program. No previous theater experience is required.
Those interested in more information about the theater program, especially those who wish to apply for an acting grant, can contact Douglas Okey, 309-649-6308 or Douglas.Okey@src.edu. Applicants for a grant are strongly encouraged to apply before the end of April 2021.
