Tigers defeat Tulane in AAC Championship opener

TULSA, Okla. – The fourth-seeded Memphis Tiger women’s tennis team battled to a 4-3 win over fifth-seeded Tulane in the quarterfinals of the 2022 American Athletics Conference Championship on Thursday afternoon in Tulsa, Okla.

The No. 55 Memphis (18-6) advances to Friday’s semifinal against the winner of the UCF/South Florida game. The Tigers enter the field at 3 p.m. Friday.

“Tulane was a tough opponent, as usual,” Memphis head coach said Hayden Perez mentioned. “They brought a great fight with them, and I was proud of how we matched it. We’re a team in every sense of the word, and at different times different people step in. I’m proud of that. team and I’m looking forward to another opportunity to play tomorrow.”

The Tigers dropped the first doubles game but won the next two to earn the first point of the day. Aran Teixido Garcia won 6-1, 6-1 on the first court in singles to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead, but Tulane took the next two points to tie the game at 2.

Camila Soares then took a 6-3, 6-4 victory on our court five, but Tulane fought back again to tie it at 3 with a win on court four. camila romero won the game for the Tigers with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) second court victory.

With a victory Friday in the semifinals, the Tigers would advance to the championship game Saturday at 4 p.m. on ESPN+.
