Wilkey rules out Pirates – University of Houston Athletics

GREENVILLE, North Carolina – Senior Kenna Wilkey Friday night at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium, the Houston softball team scored seven out of seven strikes in its team-leading fifth full game.
The Pirates (19-19, 2-5 Americans) had three hits against Wilkey in seven innings, the second-fewest hits allowed by Wilkey this season in a complete game.
Seeker Kati Ray Brown hit his ninth home run of the year and scored his 20th and 21st RBIs of the season in the second innings, giving Houston a 2-0 lead.
Four consecutive hits in the third inning put Houston (21-16-1, 5-1-1 American) up 5-0. Singles by left fielder Amanda Cardon and shortstop Benavides Rock put a runner in scoring position for the second baseman Becca Schulte to drive on a double over the third base sack in the left corner of the field. A base hit in the middle by the central defender Aspen Howie cleaned the bases.
Wilkey’s shutout marked his second individual shutout of the season – both came on the road.
Eight different Cougars recorded base hits, including the first five batters in the lineup. Howie and Brown counted multi-RBI games.
The Cougars were 6-0 when Brown homered.
