Wingate Wins 2021 DII National Baseball Title
CARY, NC –The slipper fits. Eight days at the USA Baseball National Training Complex end with the 2021 Cinderella Wingate Bulldogs winning their first-ever DII National Baseball Championship.
The Bulldogs have been excellent throughout the season, finishing 39-13. What they did to get to this summit was nothing short of remarkable. First, Wingate swept a regional final by knocking out two top 20 teams along the way before securing five straight playoff wins against the top 15, including the decisive 5-3 victory over No.1 Central. Missouri.
Mid-Missouri’s road to the title wasn’t easy, either. To get to the championship game, the Mules had to go through Tampa. Historically speaking, these are two of the best DII baseball programs. Central Missouri has had the most victories in this millennium, with Tampa having won the most trophies since the turn of the century.

The two clashed first on Friday, then continued on Saturday. Mason Green pitched seven solid innings to pitch the Mules in the Championship game. Erik Webb provided reassurance with his fifth homerun in Cary, to give the Mules the 3-1 victory
Although Central Missouri brought the experience, Cary’s recruits drew first blood and never gave in. The Bulldogs climbed early, taking a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third. The Mules fought back, scoring three runs in the top of the fourth, but that was all the Bulldogs could allow.
Broderson took over from Hunter Dula and pitched five clean innings with shutout, striking out five strikeouts, including the final to secure the national championship. Logan McNeely, who produced two points in the title game, won the MVP.
